Character Name: D'Vana Tendi (Tendi to her friends)
Series: Star Trek: Lower Decks
Age: Explicit age is never stated in canon or supplemental materials as far as I can tell, but Tendi has attended high school on Orion, then attended and graduated from Starfleet Academy's four year program. The Cerritos is only her second assginment in Starfleet, and her first on an actual starship, suggesting she hasn't been a Starfleet officer very long, so I would place her in her mid-20s to early 30s (from what I can tell, Orions age about the same as humans, and have a similar lifespan).
From When?: After the season 4 finale, just when she leaves the USS Cerritos to return to her family on Orion.
Warden Justification: Tendi is a certified cinnamon roll, an eternal optimist, and just an overall ray of sunshine who wants to see the best in everybody. She's also extremely smart and incredibly dedicated to whatever task is set in front of her - so much so that Dr. T'ana, the Cerritos' chief medical officer, promoted her from medic training to Senior Science Officer training before she even made Lieutenant. She's also fiercely loyal, and has proven time and again that she'll put life, limb, and rank in Starfleet on the line if it means doing the right thing by other people or saving her friends.
It's important to note that this is the case despite her being raised and trained as an Orion assassin and pirate since she was born. Her family is one of the top five most influential families in the Orion Syndicate, making her role as the "Prime" daughter particularly important. She holds the title Mistress of the Winter Constellations, and is known and respected (or at least feared) by most Orions who are involved in pirating or the Sydicate. But science was always her passion, and she dreamed of being a Starfleet officer all her life. She hid this part of her past from her Starfleet friends for a long time, but when they found out, they assured her that she wasn't her upbringing, and that the real her was "the one who geeks out about science on the Cerritos". The only reason she returns to her family at the end of season 4 was because it was the only way to convince her sister (and head of the Tendi family) to lend them aid in rescuing her friend, Beckett Mariner. She made the deal, and she honors it, both because it's the right thing to do and because it may lead to a more open relationship between Starfleet and the notoriously secretive Orion society.
Tendi's not perfect, of course. She's impulsive and vulnerable to peer pressure from those she loves or respects. She cares a lot about what other people think of her, which can lead to her allowing herself to be pushed around or walked over - not because she can't stand up for herself, but because she doesn't want to go back to being the person she was on Orion. And she can engage in... questionable tactics when she's worried someone doesn't like her or is going to stop liking her. Often involving borderline stalking while she tries to solve whatever problem she's worried about coming between the two of them, with or without their consent. Her upbringing has definitely made her approach to befriending people and navigating tricky emotional situations a bit... hamfisted, and she comes off as niave or overbearing because of it at times. Most people just assume it's because she's a nerd with bad social skills, not because she was groomed to be a criminal and weapon from birth. She has been attempting to work on her flaws over Lower Decks canon, and they don't overshadow her core identity as a good person.
Item: A T88 scanner - the one with the cool purple stripe. These can be used to run diagnostics for everything from medical to engineering. It will not be able to analyze Barge technology, powers, or effects, nor will it function for anything pure magic. Anything borderline will require approval on her permissions page or ooc discussion to determine whether it'd work or not.
Abilities/Powers: Tendi doesn't actually have powers beyond a regular humanoid who's highly trained in sciences and combat. To be very clear, she explicitly does NOT have female Orion pheremones that can ensnare and control males. Lower Decks clarifies that this is something at least some Orions are born without (or at least that's how Tendi's explained it in canon), though it's unclear how common it is.
She is trained and accomplished in medicine, chemistry and genetics; she came to the Cerritos as a medic trainee, and she created an entire "dog" from carbon in her spare time by hand-writing its entire genome (of course she'd never actually MET a dog at the time, so the result was... interesting). She assists her best friend Rutherford with engineering fairly regularly as well. Her general knowledge covers many other fields of science (including those relevant to the Star Trek setting, like exobiology, exobotony, etc.) due to her Senior Science Officer training. She isn't a specialist, however, and still in training, so her knowledge in these fields is more limited than her primary fields of study. As a Starfleet officer, she also is very used to high tech gizmos, gadgets, and computers, and will adapt to using most such items she encounters with ease.
In the field, she's also a skilled fighter, proficient with many kinds of close-combat weapons, knows how to find security backdoors in starships (sometimes even how to hotwire them), and can pilot in a pinch. These only tend to come up in extreme circumstances because she doesn't like to advertise her pirate background.
Wardening Strategies and Philosophies: The Barge is like a candy store to Tendi, and she's like a small child with a massive sweet tooth. She will be SO delighted and fascinated to meet people from different dimensions and timelines, to learn about their homes and cultures (and possibly their biomechanics - with persmission, of course!). And the Barge itself is just as fascinating - she's going to be very preoccupied learning how the Barge, floods, and breaches all work (or at least trying to). Being that she's from Star Trek, she's also used to strange and wacky occurrances happening on a regular basis that affect the minds, bodies, and realities of a whole ship. She'll be a bit more resiliant about floods and breaches than most newcomers. Her first day on the Cerritos involved a rage virus outbreak, after all, and she was mostly just excited that she got to hold a human heart afterwards.
She will likely feel a little insecure about her role as a Warden at first, being that she's only a Lieutenant Junior Grade on the Cerritos and has never really been in such a position of power over someone. She'll likely approach it more as being her inmate's warden "buddy", and treat them largely as an equal, until if and when it becomes obvious she needs to put her foot down.
Her approach will likely be rather annoying to many inmates. She's the kind of person who attaches herself to someone, declares they're her new best friend, and doesn't back down until they admit they're friends. It might be considered love bombing, if it weren't completely genuine on Tendi's side, and she never tries to weaponize her friendships for personal gain. She will probably tend towards being overly permissive, but she can and will crack down if an inmate pushes her too far and takes too much advantage of her kindness - she spent years as the Mistress of the Winter Constellations, after all. But she was willing to give even the traitorous exocomp Peanut Hamper a second (and third) chance, so it would take something extreme to really break her trust and make her not willing to be someone's warden anymore.
That being said, Tendi will probably do best with someone who primarily needs love and support to get them headed towards the right path, even if they're not willing to admit it yet. She very much doesn't like being an authoritarian, and if she has to do it constantly it will wear her down and make her struggle a lot in her role. She's also likely not a good fit for someone who's incredibly mean or cruel for the same reason. She does have some trauma surrounding homicidal AIs that are yellow and vaguely triangle-shaped. I realize Bill Cipher's been retired, but just in case another inmate fitting part or all of that description shows up, it's probably not right for her.
Deal: Honestly, just an opportunity to study the Barge and its residents would likely have been enough to tempt her. But she's in a difficult place with having to go back to her family and work for them in her old role as the Mistress of the Winter Constellations. Part of what she wants is just time to come to terms with her situation (the deal was made in the heat of the moment, and she was given little time to process everything before her sister called her home), but she also has some idea that she might be able to use her Deal to fix everything so she can go back to her friends and REAL home on the Cerritos without betraying and angering her family, though she's not quite sure on the details yet.
History: Fandom Wiki, which breaks down her backstory better, and regular Wiki, which goes more in depth season-by-season about what happens during the show.

Special Notes: I will be focusing on Lower Decks canon with regards to Orion culture, which has changed a lot since they were introduced in the original series. So I'm prioritizing what's presented in LD, supplemented by information about Orion culture and history only where it doesn't directly contradict with LD canon. I also don't have exhaustive knowledge of all Star Trek series up to LD, so I'll be relying on wikis to fill in gaps in my knowledge Tendi would know about from history lessons or recent events.
